STEIN CLUB APPLAUDS LGBT CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR ANC

Washington, DC - November 6, 2006 - The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club (Stein Club), the largest LGBT political organization in the District, applauds its members and openly LGBT candidates who are running for Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) seats in the upcoming election. ANC Commissioners are non-paid elected officials who represent the concerns of their local community to the DC Government.

The following Stein Club members and openly LGBT candidates are running for ANC:

Christopher Dyer (ANC 2F03), Vince Micone (ANC 2A06), Joseph Martin (ANC 4C09), Neil Glick (ANC 6B08), Andy Litsky (ANC 6D04), Larry Ray (ANC 1A07), Roger Moffatt (ANC 6D05), Bob Siegel (ANC 6D07), David Sobelsohn (ANC 6D02), Michael Bernardo (ANC 2F06), Jim Richardson (ANC 2F02), Ramon Estrada (ANC 2B09), and Babak Movahedi (ANC 2B07) who is running as a write-in candidate.

Additionally, Stein Club members Alex Padro (ANC 2C01), John Tinpe (ANC 2C03) and Richard Rogers (ANC 2C04) are all running in a highly contested election in Shaw. John Tinpe and Richard Rogers are running against individuals who voted to oppose the opening of BeBar this year, and Alex Padro is a three-term incumbent who has fought valiantly for issues of great concern to the LGBT Community.

Please look for these candidates on the ballot as it is important the community supports LGBT candidates.

Vote on November 7th.

The Stein Club, founded in 1976, is a membership organization dedicated to growing the political participation, representation, and visibility of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community in the District of Columbia's political process. It is also the local organization of National Stonewall Democrats, a grassroots network connecting LGBT Democratic activists from all across the United States.

Statements Made by Vincent Orange on Marriage

vincentorange.jpg

"I am the only one that is opposed to same-sex marriage. The other four, they say they believe in God, they go to church, but they're also for same-sex marriage. So, I think coming down the stretch that that's going to be the key issue. I don't think they're morally fit to run this city."

Councilmember Vincent Orange on Saturday, August 12.
