By their vote today they have shown the world that the citizens of the District of Columbia stand for equality and fairness for all individuals and families and that as we continue to fight for our right to equal representation in the halls of congress and full self determination, we will not stand for denying rights to any member of our beloved community.

We know that the fight is not over, but today we celebrate this amazing milestone in the history of our city and our nation by applauding the work of local activists and leaders over the last four decades that made today's vote a reality.
