Stein Club Endorses Bowser, Barry and Brown / Passes Resolution to Endorse Barack Obama

Washington, DC - June 19, 2008 - The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club (Stein Club), the largest LGBT political organization in the District, endorsed Muriel Bowser for City Council - Ward 4, Marion Barry for City Council -Ward 8, and Kwame Brown for City Council - At-Large at its June 18 meeting.

The Stein Club also unanimously passed a resolution to endorse Barack Obama for President of the United States.

A candidate for office must receive at least 60% of the vote of members present in order to receive the Stein Club's endorsement. All votes for City Council were conducted by secret ballot.

In the Ward 4 endorsement, Muriel Bowser received 82.5% of the vote (33 votes out of 40 total votes).

In the Ward 8 endorsement, Marion Barry received 64.29% of the vote (27 votes out of 42).

In the At-Large endorsement, Kwame Brown received 89.74% of the vote (35 out of 39 votes).

The Stein Club would like to thank all the candidates and Stein Club members who participated in the endorsement meeting. Through our endorsements, the Stein Club continues to play a visible and important role in ensuring LGBT ian the District's political and election process.
