Stein Club Releases Political Platform

(January 16, 2006)
Washington, DC - The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club (Stein Club), the largest GLBT political organization in the District, today released its 2006 Political Platform. This political platform presents the Stein Club's overall organizational principles, priorities and strategies for 2006.

"The Stein Club's 2006 Political Platform is the result of a strategic planning process conducted by the Stein Club and serves as a blueprint for action based on issue areas and priorities identified by our membership in 2005," said Mario Acosta-Velez, Stein Club's President.

As the Stein Club's mission states: "The Gertrude Stein Democratic Club, founded in 1976, is a membership organization dedicated to growing the political participation, representation, and visibility of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community in the District of Columbia's political process."

"The platform will provide strategic direction to ensure the active involvement and visibility of the Stein Club in the District's political process," continued Acosta-Velez.

The political platform reflects the Stein Club's commitment to pursuing its mission, and includes an emphasis on building the Stein Club's presence as the voice of the LGBT democratic community in the District's political affairs, playing a leadership role within the DC State Democratic Committee, mobilizing the LGBT community to help elect candidates sympathetic to the LGBT community, and addressing a variety of issues impacting our diverse LGBT community.

"2006 will be an important political year for the LGBT community in the District. The Stein Club needs an active membership to make sure our voices are heard," stated Darren Bowie, Stein Club's Vice-President for Political Affairs.
