Call to Order:
President David Meadows called the meeting to order at 7:10 pm
President's Report
President Meadows welcomed meeting attendees and special guests. He talked about the election of Stein members as LGBT delegates to the Democratic Convention. The delegation includes 7 LGBT individuals, including the super delegate. The convention will begin on July 26 in Boston, MA. He also mentioned that the National Stonewall Democrats will be having its annual conference in Providence, Rhode Island the week before the convention.
Vice President Report
Vice President Lewis informed the membership that we had scheduled an endorsement for Shadow Representative and welcomed Mr. Roy Brown. Mr. Brown talked about his support to the Stein and LBGT community over the years, such as his advocacy on coverage of HIV testing by insurance companies, domestic benefits and rights. He also addressed issues related to voting rights in Congress and the importance of having the Stein Club's support. Frank Kameny moved to endorse Mr. Brown by acclamation. The motion passed.
Report on Stein Annual Fundraising
President Meadows talked about the Stein Fundraising scheduled for June. Phill Pannell asked about what the National Stonewall Democrats is doing to raise money. He said that if they are going to co-sponsor the event, then they should help to raise funds or contribute in a meaningful way. He also suggested that we look into accessibility for people with disabilities and for the elderly at the Washington Club, the place where the fundraising will take place.
Old Business
President Meadows reported that the Stein resolution at the DSC will be decided soon and will informed the Club after the vote is held. He expects the resolution to pass, therefore granting Stein two seats at the DSC. He mentioned that Stein members should lobby DSC members to support the resolution. Peter Share mentioned in this regard that is necessary to form a coalition to lobby the DSC. Phill Pannell mentioned that he first introduced this resolution in 1996 then in 2000. It is time to pass this resolution, he said. Vice President Lewis will coordinate efforts to lobby the DSC.
New Business
Phill Pannell mentioned that the DSC will march in the Pride Parade and asked Stein members to join the DSC. He is chairing the DSC Special Events Committee, and this is part of the committee's efforts.
Peter Share asked about how the Stein Club can get the word out about the fact the Club does not have a formal position on the same-sex marriage issue. President Meadows mentioned that the Club needs to address the issue and reach a position at some point.
Phill Pannell mentioned that the Stein Club should work with other organizations to host a town hall meeting on Salvation Army issues and the Mayor's position about these issues. He also recommended that the Club consider paying someone to make phone calls in order to increase membership involvement in meetings and special events.
