Councilmember Cantania Joins Stein Club to Turn Out the Vote

(October 5, 2004)
Washington, DC -- David Meadows, President of the Gertrude Stein Democratic Club met with newly registered Independent party member, DC Councilmember David Catania on Saturday, September 30th. The Councilmember agreed to join the Stein Club’s efforts to help swing the state of Pennsylvania into the Blue for Kerry/Edwards in the upcoming Nov. 2nd Presidential election.

Stein Democrats and Philadelphia’s Liberty City Democrats are spearheading the “DC Rainbow Riders program”, along with The DC young Democrats, The Kerry/Edwards LGBT outreach and the DC Democratic Party. The Councilmember will join Stein Dems the last weekend of October through Nov. 2nd.

“The DC Rainbow Riders” a coalition of LGBT Democratic activist and allies has started and will continue weekly weekend trips to Philadelphia and Harrisburg. They will do usual GOTV efforts including phone banking, door to door voter identification and outreach to Pennsylvania voters.

Recent polls show Kerry leading the state over President George Bush. “The efforts of these Democratic Clubs can help decide the outcome of the presidency. Bush will be assured of another term to office if he does not carry the State of Pennsylvania”, said Jeff Hops an active Stein member who is organizing the DC Rainbow Riders program.
